A Frontier Airlines flash sale has slashed round-trip airfares between San Francisco and Houston, both directions, to only $28. This is a reduction of 92% from average prices of over $300, according to Hopper’s when to fly and buy reports on the routes.

The fare sale will last for one day only – travelers keen to take advantage of the huge reductions must book their tickets on September 22. Discounted fares are available on certain departure dates in November and December, and can be found on both non-stop flights, with a travel time of just over four hours, and on flights with a stop in Frontier’s hub airport of Denver, which have an average flight time of six or seven hours.

"This is a one-day sale by Frontier to promote awareness of its newly launched route between San Francisco and Houston," said Patrick Surry, Chief Data Scientist at Hopper.

"Frontier is fighting for market share on a route which has stiff competition from American-US and Delta airlines, although they will be the only carrier offering direct flights. These promotional discounts are only going to last a day and you won’t see anything else like them for a long, long time."
