We looked at the destinations with a higher number of family bookings on Hopper, and then chose those with improving hotel availability (suggesting they are somewhat under the radar), and generally affordable nightly hotel rates and airfare. We’re seeing the highest increases in hotel prices in the following locations: southwestern Utah (i.e. Cedar City, St. George), southern Florida beaches (like Miami Beach, the Florida Keys, Ft. Lauderdale), the Great Smoky Mountains (Knoxville, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville), and Virginia/North Carolina Beaches (Outer Banks & Virginia Beach).
The destinations below are relatively removed from these markets, and may present a great off-the-beaten path opportunity affordable for families. We ranked these five family-friendly destinations by affordability. Better hotel availability (more under the radar destinations) correlated with hotel price and overall better affordability.
