June 24: Frontier Airlines Cut Chicago Midway to Denver Airfares by 42% in Three Day Sale

Frontier Airlines have slashed ticket fares on flights between Chicago’s Midway Airport and Denver in a sale that will last from June 24 until June 26. Fares on the route have fallen to as low as $138, a 42% reduction on previous price levels, which stood at $238 just before the start of the sale, according to Hopper’s Chicago-Denver when to fly and buy report. The three-day sale is valid for tickets for travel from August 19 until December 10, 2014.

The move is an attempt to lure passengers away from Chicago’s O’Hare airport to the city’s smaller Midway airport, where Frontier is the only airline to operate direct flights across the Midwest to Denver. From Chicago O’Hare, passengers have a much wider choice of carrier, with Spirit holding the biggest market share, followed by United and Frontier, according to Hopper’s technical report on the route.

However, the cheapest direct flights from Chicago O’Hare, offered by Spirit, currently stand at $238, significantly more expensive than those available through Frontier’s fare sale. Consequently, data analysts at Hopper advised passengers considering the deal to act before the sale ends on June 26.

"To put the $138 return price into context, it is the cheapest fare we’ve seen on the Midway to Denver route in months," said Hopper’s chief data scientist, Patrick Surry. "So if you’ve got a trip from Chicago to Denver planned between August and December this year, it’s probably best to book a ticket with Frontier in the next couple of days."
