Barceló, a leading name in the Spanish tourism market, has grown from one location in Majorca to 140 hotels across 17 countries. A big player in the Dominican Republic, the hotel chain specializes in everything from all-inclusive resorts, golf resorts, honeymoon escapes, adults-only branches and family friendly outposts. It’s a trusted name, and their locations are typically top-shelf, whether it’s on a pearly white-sand stretch overlooking the unobstructed Caribbean Ocean or on the convenient Avenida Maximo Gomez in Santo Domingo, walkable to excellent shopping and a metro station. Culturally accessible, with tons of activities on the resorts and outside of them, Barcélo is a great go-to for beach vacationers – the only question is which one to choose!

Located on the southern border of the Dominican Republic in Juan Dolio, near Santo Domingo, where the crystal blue water laps up against white sand beaches, the Barceló Capella Beach resort offers the exotic refuge of Caribbean paradise with the rich culture of the island’s capital. Rather than stuffy and isolated resort, the Barceló Capella Beach is a reasonably priced all-inclusive experience that also reminds guests where they are: local residents set up markets hocking crafts and regional snacks out front; the evening entertainment shines a spotlight on Caribbean dance and music, and daily excursions out to the city or surrounding attractions allow visitors to get out and discover the island on their own, on a tour bus or by catamaran. Beach and pool-side, however, allow for maximum chillage – cold drinks are served out of coconut shells and pineapples, the spa offers professional massages and facial treatments and there are tons of facilities for children so the adults can relax.

Barceló’s Puerto Plata, on the northern coast of the island, offers a variety of different water sports and activities that can be enjoyed right on the resort – visitors get their pick of mini-golf, beach volleyball, water polo, daytime aerobics, basketball, tennis, scuba diving, kayaking, sailboats and even a proper 18-hole par-72 golf club on the property. The nightlife is booming all week long, hosting their own nightclub on the beach and tons of nightly entertainment shows. For newlyweds or families who simply want to add a little more luxury to their all-inclusive experience, the Club Premium throws in a much larger room, personalized service, imported beverages in the Club Premium lounge, concierge services and priority reservations for restaurants. Off the island, travelers can check out the Brugal Rum factory, founded 1888 and located right in Puerto Plata, or the nearby fishing village of Sosúa, which has great opportunities for deep-sea diving and snorkeling.
The crown jewel of the Barceló chain in the DR, the Bávaro Palace Deluxe is a sprawling complex occupying 3 kilometres the Plata Bávaro, a strip of superfine white sand, turquoise waters and coconut palms. Those who choose to stay at the Palace Deluxe do so because they want to relax in the personal cabanas by four sparkling pools, or spend their mornings on the 18-hole par 72 golf course by legendary course designer P.D Dye. Meals are spent at their 11 culturally diverse restaurants (including two buffet restaurants and a 24 hour snack bar), and evenings can be whiled away at any of their 13 bars and nightclubs. There are never dull moments at the resort, only moments of relaxation, or of spectacular activity (sailing, golf, fishing, scuba diving), or moments of dancing or exploring the town. Visitors can visit the Cascada el Limón, a 55-meter high waterfall located in a nearby rainforest, as well as Altos de Chavón, an artistic neighborhood replete with an art school, unique restaurants, art museum and amphitheatre.

The exceptionally modern and sleek outpost in the capital city of Santo Domingo offers resort-luxury accommodations with the convenience of being inside the beating heart of the DR. Perfect for travelers who prefer to spend their days exploring the unique and bustling city and their nights lounging by the pool or in the piano bar. While this location is not all-inclusive (nor is there a beach to warrant it), the Barceló Santo Domingo offers some of the same facilities, such as a luxury spa, pristine pools, hotel-organized excursions and city tours, an in-house casino, and a Club Premium program for higher level luxury which also keeps the business traveler in mind and a variety of unique and distinct restaurants.

Just up the beach from the Barceló Bavaro Palace Deluxe is the Barceló Punta Cana, a super family-friendly all-inclusive resort at the heart of which is a huge winding pool. Adults can have fun partying at the nightclub, casino, and seven different bars (swim-up, sports, lobby, poolside, etc.) and generally just Euro-style chilling in the complimentary beach chairs or golfing at the shared golf course; while kids can get into some real adventure in their elaborate water park, daycare center, trapeze or climbing wall. There’s tons of fun for the whole family, as well, with great nightly entertainment and truly enlightening excursions out into proper Punta Cana. For a slice of white sandy paradise and an unforgettable luxury getaway, check out and then check in to the Barceló Punta Cana.
