Hopper Launches ‘Stay the Night’ Just in Time for Last-Minute Summer Vacations and Road Trips

Today, we’re excited to announce that we are launching a new last-minute hotel booking feature available on the Hopper app to help travelers score the best rates and save more on hotel rooms. We’ve been beta testing this feature as there’s been increased demand for spontaneous last-minute bookings. Currently, 51% of all hotel bookings made on the Hopper app are last-minute, meaning they’re booked within 48 hours of check-in.

As more Americans get vaccinated, travelers are eager to book that post-vaccination vacation they’ve been dreaming of. However, with changing travel guidelines and various vaccine timelines, we’ve seen more consumers opting to book last-minute and plan trips closer to home.

Today, 55% of all hotel bookings made in the Hopper app are for staycations or hotel stays less than 200 miles from a user’s origin location. Currently, staycations account for over half of all last-minute hotel bookings made in the app. That’s up nearly 10% from pre-pandemic travel.

As travel returns, short haul stays and road trips are also gaining popularity. In recent months, we’ve seen a tremendous surge in car rental bookings and increased demand for getaways within driving distance. In fact, car rental bookings on Hopper are up 498% since January.

Why book last minute? Travelers can save 25% off peak prices by booking a hotel last minute (within 48 hours of check-in). According to Hopper’s pricing data, the best last-minute hotel deals can be found in big cities including Las Vegas, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York. Hopper users have saved an average of $45 per night booking last-minute in popular destinations such as Las Vegas.

Introducing  Stay The Night

Stay the Night is a one stop shop for last-minute hotel deals. 

With Stay The Night, booking last-minute hotel stays just got easier. Every time you enter the Stay the Night deals hub, Hopper will curate lists of the best last-minute deals in popular destinations. If you share your location with the app, Hopper will further customize the deal hub to show you the best deals within driving distance. Using Hopper's advanced algorithms considering price and hotel popularity, the app determines the top 15 deals each day for you to choose from.

If location sharing is not enabled, Hopper will automatically generate a list of the top markets in the country for last-minute deals and search for the best rates. You can easily scroll through various cities and properties with the top last-minute deals available to you at that time and book with just a few taps directly in the app.

To customize your search further, travelers will have the option to customize their Stay the Night hub with their favorite destinations. Users can select up to eight destinations for their customized hub and Hopper will constantly monitor for last-minute deals available in those cities. You can also apply filters such as date and the number of days of stay to find the best rates available that meet your travel needs.

With Stay the Night, travelers will have access to actual hotel property photos and videos, recent reviews and tagging to help travelers find the best property for their stay and exclusive private rates available on the Hopper app. 

Stay The Night deals are available in all major U.S markets including the top 10 cities for last-minute bookings: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, San Diego, and many more.
