Airfare for Spring Break 2025

Domestic airfare for spring break trips (March & April) is averaging $280 per ticket, up 4% compared to this time last year.

For spring breakers looking to hit the beaches in the Caribbean, airfare to islands in the Antilles is up just 3% compared to last year, averaging $424 per round trip ticket. Trips to Mexico and Central America are averaging $456 per ticket, up 3% from this time last year. 

Long haul trips for spring are averaging the same or less than this time last year, with airfare to South America and Europe this spring in line with January 2024 prices. Trips to Europe are averaging $627 per ticket, flat compared to last year.

Spring Break Break-Down

The first two weekends of March will be the cheapest travel weekends this spring, as the spring vacation season just begins to kick off. Traveling the week of April 14th, or either bookending weekends, will be the most expensive time to take a trip this spring travel season. Both Passover and Easter Sunday fall within this week, a time when many Americans look to visit family, and when many schools are closed for spring break holidays. Travelers should expect to pay a significant premium for taking domestic or international trips over this weekend, with domestic airfare already 33% higher for this week compared to the first two weekends of March.

Travelers looking to getaway over Easter and Passover weekends will pay a hefty premium, with domestic airfare and regional destinations seeing prices 10% - 40% higher over the holiday weekend. Skip the Easter surge and travel in the first weekend of March to take advantage of the lowest prices and smallest crowds, especially in destinations like the Caribbean.

When to Fly: Weekend Getaways

Travelers looking to getaway for the weekend this spring should plan on a Saturday morning departure and Monday return to save 19% on their round trip domestic airfare. For those making it an extra long weekend, tacking the extra days on to the end of the trip will save them the most with Saturday to Tuesday trips offering a 25% discount.

When to Fly - Week Long Trips

Planning a week-long vacation for spring break? Save as much as 39% or $172 per domestic ticket by departing for your week long trip on Tuesday or Wednesday instead of on peak weekend days. Airfare is highest for week-long trips beginning on Friday, Saturday and especially Sunday during the spring break period.

International travelers can save as much as $240 per ticket on trips around the world by departing for week long trips mid week, instead of on Saturday or Friday.

Accommodations

Accommodations in the US during peak spring break weeks are averaging $260 per night but are expected to peak over the Passover and Easter holiday weekends in April. Travelers who are looking to stay in warm weather, tourist destinations should also expect to find higher prices, especially for weekend stays this spring. 

When to Stay: Accommodations

Travelers with flexibility on when they stay should aim for Sunday night, or midweek stays. Nightly rates are an average of 22% higher for Friday and Saturday night stays compared to Sunday night or weekday stays.  If you’re planning for a warm weather getaway to a traditional leisure destination like the Florida beaches or Disney, staying midweek can save you even more!

When to Book your Spring Break Trip?

Domestic

• Airfare: If you plan to travel in March, book in the next two weeks to get the best prices. For travelers getting away in April, start monitoring prices now and expect to book in the next 3-6 weeks. The exception is if you are planning to travel for Easter weekend, which you should book now as it is expected to be exceptionally busy, and expensive. Book accommodations around a month before your trip dates to ensure the best prices and availability. 

• Accommodations:  For travelers flexible on where they stay and looking for the best deals, expect to book between 10-14 days before check in to get the best price. If you’re completely flexible on where you stay and the amenities of your hotel, you can usually get the absolute lowest prices by booking within 24 hours of check in, but may run the risk of hotels selling out.

International

• Airfare: Book now! Prices for international flights are already rising as the peak spring break travel dates approach. Book now to get the best combination of prices and availability for flights and hotel stays. If you plan to stay at a resort or all inclusive property on your trip, make sure to book now before properties sell out.

• Accommodations: For travelers flexible on where they stay and looking for the best deals, expect to book between 2-4 days before check in to get the best price. If you’re completely flexible on where you stay and the amenities of your hotel, you can usually get the absolute lowest prices by booking within a few days of check in, but may run the risk of hotels selling out. Travelers interested in a specific property, or looking to book an all inclusive property in particular, should plan to book 2-3 months in advance to ensure they get the best price before properties sell out.

Where are travelers looking to go for spring break trips this year? For those travelers staying domestic, Florida is a top destination! Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale are all ranked among the top 5 most watched destinations on the Hopper app for spring break this year. Outside of Florida warm weather trips to Las Vegas or Phoenix are top of mind for travelers. 

No surprise that those travelers thinking international are leaning towards Caribbean getaways, with Cancun, San Juan, Punta Cana and Montego Bay topping the ranking of most watched international destinations for spring break trips. Tokyo, Japan also makes the ranking for this year, as the increasingly popular tourist destination draws crowds for cherry blossom season in the spring.

Average airfares are calculated as a demand weighted average of the 10th percentile of prices available to book during the period of searches utilized for the report. This report looks at prices based on the previous 1 week of searches for spring break dates from March 1st through May 1st. Average hotel rates are calculated as the median of rates available to book in the week ending January 21st, 2025.
