The expert team at Hopper has compiled a list of the top destinations for a romantic getaway, where to find the best deals, and savings tips for couples looking to get away without breaking the bank this year. 

What will you pay?

Budget savvy travelers can expect to pay an average of $285 per ticket for round-trip domestic destinations over Valentine’s Day weekend, -6.7% lower than prices the same weekend in 2019. More ambitious weekend international travelers can expect to find deals around $600 per round-trip ticket out of the country, a -6.3% drop compared to the same weekend in 2019. Hotel deals will be available in many U.S cities for the romantic weekend, with rates as low as an average of $150/night in some cities. 

How to get the best deals on your romantic getaway?

• Book this week. In order to get the best deals, book your travel this week. After this week, prices will rise by an average of $5-$15 per day until Valentine’s day weekend. 

• Depart on February 13th. Head out of town on the night before Valentine’s Day to save an average of $30 on domestic and international airfare. If leaving a day early isn’t an option, hold off to depart until Saturday morning, as prices will be highest on Friday, February 14th. 

• Go off the beaten path. Instead of big city getaways, head to smaller cities for the best rates. Look to cities like Nashville, Charlotte, Savannah, Houston and Seattle for good deals over Valentine’s Day weekend.

• Search for Private Hotel Rates: Use apps, like Hopper, to secure private rates for properties that can be significantly cheaper than the rates available on the web.

• Be flexible! Being flexible on dates and destinations is key to getting the best deals when you plan your getaway. The best hotel deals will be available for Thursday night check-in (February 13th) and checking out on Valentine’s Day.
